ANNOUNCEMENTS

(July 2008)  What a wonderful time we had with the congregation of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville.  We provided worship songs for all three services and kept the toes tappin'.  For most of us, this is our home church, so it is a special occasion for us.

(Aug 2008) Thank you to First United Methodist of High Springs for having us August 24th.  We always enjoy worshipping in song with you as the congregation is lively and sings better than we do!

(Sept 2008)  We headed back to Jacksonville to Garden City United Methodist Church where we played more than a dozen of the old fashioned gospel aires.  Pastor Allan and his congregation welcomed us warmly and helped us at every turn.  We were blessed by your service and we hope that our music brought you the gospel message in a fresh, new way.

(March 2009) After a long break, we worshipped with Morriston Baptist Church on March 29th.  The pews were full and folks were sitting in the wings as we brought the old gospel music to an excited congregation.  The spirit was alive and well as hands were clapping and voices belted out the old camp meeting songs.  To see a collection of photos of this day, click on the links below:

ABOUT WSU

This musical gospel group formed in Gainesville FL back in the mid-90's. The affectionate name came from events where available musicians would play for the church events. Pretty soon it was the same folks most of the time and we played regularly. When our large church was transitioning to a new property, we regularly provided music for the outdoor worship services at the site of the new church. We were invited to a number of locations by invitation and found it to be a meaningful ministry, especially to those who miss the old songs that we associate with "dinner on the grounds."

We lead congregations in a service of singing some of the old gospel favorites. And we admit that most of our music comes out with an old country kind of flavor. Our format is sing-a-long and we sprinkle in relevant scriptures reinforced by those songs. We find that congregations are very receptive to a group that invites them to sing along (words projected on a screen) instead of just being entertained.

WHY WOULD YOU CONSIDER US?

WSU has been leading worship services for more than 10 years. Our program offers a mixture of songs for an energetic and meaningful worship experience. We have stand-up-hand-clapping-toe-tapping gospel songs. We have songs of prayerful meditation. And we have songs that are somewhere in between. And while it is enjoyable, it's not just for the fun of it. We share the scriptures behind the music.

If you are a pastor that needs a break for a worship service, whether it is to resolve a scheduling conflict, to just take a break, or to give the congregation something a little different, contact us and let us help you as we continue to do His work.

WHERE DO WE PLAY?
Most of our members live in the Gainesville FL area. We have played in surrounding communities, as well as in Tallahassee and Jacksonville. We will make our best effort to attend wherever we are requested.

SONGS WE PLAY

Congregations clap their hands and tap their feet as we lead them in the up-tempo celebrations of God in song. And slow, sweet songs of reverence and reflection foster a prayerful spirit as we go into prayer time. We prepare each service with songs and scripture to open the hearts of the faithful and fill them with the spirit of God's love.

Our playlist now has well over 120 songs. Our music, for the most part, is not contemporary. Our songs are mostly old gospel songs. Most of our music is influenced by the country gospel sound. Our songs include:
* The Old Rugged Cross * Farther Along * I'll Fly Away * There is Power in the Blood * Will the Circle Be Unbroken * Victory In Jesus
* When The Roll is Called Up Yonder * Shall We Gather at the River * In The Garden * What A Friend We Have in Jesus
* Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown * On Jordan's Stormy Banks * Swing Low, Sweet Chariot * ... many more

We also do some special pieces, such as * This Ole House * Step Into The Water * This Little Light of Mine (blues, fun)
* Wayfarin' Stranger * The Lighthouse * Everybody's Gonna Have a Wonderful Time Up There * ... and more ...

When inviting us, let us know if there are any particular songs you request. Otherwise, we will prepare a service to provide a good dose of God's joy and spirit to your congregation through music.
